United Way Announces 2007 Allocations
Brattleboro, VT - The United Way of Windham County announced
its 2007 allocations at an awards ceremony Thursday morning,
June 7, at the Marlboro Technology Center. Dozens of United
Way volunteers and community members were on hand as oversized
checks were handed out to agency representatives during the
two hour breakfast celebration. Nineteen local human service
agencies received grants ranging from $2,200 to $45,000 for
twenty two programs in the community. More than 16,000 residents
of Windham County receive services from United Way partner
agencies.
“Hundreds of volunteers and businesses, along with
thousands of generous individuals are responsible for the
success of the 2007 United Way campaign,” commented
Barbara Harris, United Way of Windham County Board President.
"We are grateful to all of our contributors and volunteers
for generously giving back to make this a better community
and help those who are working hard in nonprofit agencies
to help others."
Campaign Director Carmen Derby facilitated the United Way
of Windham County allocation process. “We had the help
of a diverse group of twenty two volunteers who dedicated
their time, community experience and knowledge to the allocations
process,” stated Derby. “The allocations process
is a community effort. The community donates their money to
the United Way campaign with the expectation that their contributions
will go to charitable agencies that make an impact locally.
The mission of the United Way of Windham County is to improve
lives by mobilizing the caring power of the community.”
“Here at United Way we measure success by the difference
we’re making in the lives of people in Windham County”
commented Konstantin von Krusenstiern, United Way of Windham
County Executive Director. “The 2007 allocations supports
programs that nurture children, promote health and wellness,
assist families, facilitate self-sufficiency, support senior
citizens and aid people faced with crisis,” stated von
Krusenstiern. “United Way of Windham County is a catalyst
for the creation of community solutions by working closely
with the providers and other stakeholders to meet our constantly
changing local challenges. We believe we have a duty to send
contributors’ dollars to places where they can do the
most good and produce measurable results.”
