Tell me more about the United Way Campaign–
United Way’s roots go back to the organization as a fund
raiser. Though United Way has expanded the scope of its work over
time, a significant part of what we do for the community is to mobilize
literally thousands of donors from all walks of life throughout
Windham County to make affordable and meaningful contributions to
support organizations and efforts that keep the quality of life
in our communities where we want it. We help people make contributions
that help their family members, friends, co-workers and neighbors
get the help they need when they need it.
We do this by running our annual community campaign every fall.
We run campaigns within work places where employers offer payroll
deduction to their employees, thus making a contribution easy and
painless. We ask businesses to contribute either by using an employer
match to employees’ gifts as an incentive for employees to
contribute, or simply as a good corporate citizen gesture. We solicit
individuals through letter writing campaigns to their homes and
professional offices asking for support. We welcome offers to be
the beneficiary of one time special fund raising effort put on by
caring groups or clubs.
In essence, we do all that we can to raise as many dollars that
we can to support agencies and initiatives that meet the needs of
the people in Windham County. We raise money to support efforts
that have a positive impact on our local community.
Our Campaign 2008 goal is $590,000. We look to raise that money
through pledges and gifts during the fall and early winter 2007/2008.
Those dollars will then be allocated to the most deserving agencies,
promising to focus their efforts to meeting the communities’
most pressing needs. Windham County donors will feel the results
of their contributions. And most importantly donors will feel good
knowing that they contributed to an effort that has made life a
little better for our local friends and neighbors who can use a
boost.
