HELP PROVIDE FINANCIAL STABILITY AS AN UNITED WAY VOLUNTEER

Want to help your neighbors become more financially stable? Have a few hours free each week this winter? The United Way of Windham County is seeking volunteers to schedule appointments, greet participants and prepare tax returns for the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. The VITA program helps families keep more of their earned income through free federal and state tax return preparation by trained volunteers. The program runs weekly in Brattleboro from February 6th to April 10th, 2019, with daytime, evening and Saturday volunteer shifts available. Volunteers are vital to the success of the program. No previous experience is required and free training is provided.

Come join our team! Last year, 26 VITA volunteers provided 2,547 total hours of service equaling $61,000 in donated volunteer time. They prepared nearly 511 tax returns, providing over $766,000 in Earned Income Tax Credits and refunds to the local economy. To learn more about this engaging volunteer experience, come to a VITA Volunteer Open House on Thursday, November 15th at either 12:00pm or 5:00pm at the United Way of Windham County’s office; 1 Holstein Place in Brattleboro.  Meet experienced VITA tax volunteers, learn about the training offered, and get your questions about the program answered.

When asked what motivated them to become a VITA volunteer, one person offered, “The program is very beneficial to its clients and I appreciate being a part of it. I enjoy the interaction with the clients.” For more information on becoming a VITA volunteer or to RSVP, please contact 802-257-4011 x119 or volunteer@unitedwaywindham.org
