Kids in Coats - Letter to the Editor

April 19, 2018

United Way of Windham County wishes to thank our 224 Kids in Coats Fund donors for providing $24,613 for kids in this community. We also want to thank the Holt Fund and the Stratton Foundation for their continued support of our work.  Over the past 5 months, we have been given opportunities to raise funds and provide information at 14 events, including the Sunshine Rotary Club Trivia Night, the Cotton Mill Holiday Sale, 99 Restaurant Dining for a Cause and at the River Garden and the Now & Then Vehicles Club.

Over 460 kids in Windham County were able to access the winter outerwear that they needed to stay warm this year because of the Kids in Coats Fund.  We would like to thank all school nurses, administrators, early educators, case managers, social services staff, and anyone else who served as a referral source and assisted families in applying for Kids in Coats assistance. We want to thank the 10 participating stores that accepted our vouchers this season and provided support for families searching for winter outerwear for their children. Those stores are: Experienced Goods Thrift Shop, Label Shopper, Love It Twice, Northeast Mountain Footwear, Sam’s Outdoor Outfitters, Second Chance Shoppe, SEVCA Good Buy Thrift Store, Twice Blessed, West Townshend Country Store Thrift, and Whippersnappers.

We would also like to thank the Brattleboro Reformer for graciously partnered with us this season in updating the public on our progress, and the Retreat Farm for initiating a yearlong partnership with our fund, allowing families to donate a coat in lieu of entrance fee.

We are so tremendously grateful to all our partners and supporters in this community.  Thank you for keeping kids warm!

Our work continues, even as the weather warms. Donations towards the goal of $50,000 can be made throughout the year. If you would like to learn more about the Kids in Coats Fund and how to donate, click here or call 802.257.4011.

With Gratitude,
